Typical for Vienna is the so-called Beisl, where the famous Wiener Schnitzel, goulash and pastries are served amid a rustic ambience. Places where the Viennese can pursue their preference for hearty dishes.

The manifold influences that impacted the city over the centuries have left their mark on Viennese cooking. Traveling through this, the most important intersection between Orient and Occident, between northern and southern Europe, were both Italians, Germans, Hungarians and Ottomans, each leaving behind some of their own dining and drinking customs. The Viennese coffee house is evidence of this, as is the love of the Viennese for Hungarian goulash. No wonder, then, that one of the most popular and most famous restaurants in the city bears the name "Gulaschmuseum".
